ABA riders begin their racing careers at the Novice level. Advancement to the Intermediate and Expert levels is based on a rider's win count. Beginning in 2005, a Novice rider with 8 wins will be required to "move-up" to the Intermediate level. Once reaching Intermediate, the rider's win count is reset to zero and when 25 more wins are earned, the rider will be required to advance to Expert.

**Note** A rider may volunteer to advance to the next level at any time but will not be allowed to return to a lower classification. For more details related to rider advancements, please consult the 2007 ABA rule book.
